After Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Marion Bartoli, Andrea Petkovic has added her name to an already incredible entry list for the 20th Open GDF SUEZ, being held from 4 – 12 February 2012 at the Stade Coubertin in Paris.  IMG is the official organizer and sole proprietor of the event.

The bubbly German was one of the stand-out players of the 2011 season which she finished at No.10 in the world, thanks in no small part to her title in Strasburg tournament and some excellent performances in WTA Premier Tournaments, including a final in Beijing and semi-final appearances in Miami and Cincinnati. She also had a good run in the Slams, making the quarter-finals at the Australian, French and U.S. Open.

Petkovic is appreciated by fans and tournament organizers alike for the breath of fresh air that she has brought to the sport. The German performs her patented "Petko Dance" after each of her wins, and was even magnanimous enough to get Agnieszka Radwanska to do likewise when the Pole beat her in the final at Beijing last year.

2012 will be the German's third appearance at the Open GDF SUEZ, having made it through to the quarter-finals of the previous two tournaments. She will be joined this year by compatriots Sabine Lisicki (15th in the WTA rankings) and Julia Goerges (21st), along with Serbia's Jelena Jankovic (14th), former world No.1 and U.S. Open finalist in 2008.

This is a star-studded entry list that tournament co-director Amélie Mauresmo has managed to put together for the Open GDF SUEZ, which is fast becoming one of the highlights of the women's international tennis circuit.

Throughout its history, all of the international top players (Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, Serena and Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters...) have won it, and it has also been an excellent showcase for women's tennis in France, with generation after generation gaining valuable experience and even going on to win the tournament on a number of occasions, thanks to Julie Halard-Decugis (who was the first French winner in 1996), Mary Pierce (1998) and of course Amélie Mauresmo herself who notched a hat-trick of wins (2009, 2006 and 2001) over the space of 13 years.
