In the 80’s and 90’s, the Bud Surf Tour was instrumental in the cultivation of many surfer’s careers – giving the athletes a platform and financial opportunity to chase their goals. Now, the Bud Light Lime Surf Series (BLLSS) will pay tribute to some of the Bud Tour icons with the “All Stars of the Bud Tour” heat taking place on the final day of the (BLLSS) projected for Sunday, May 29th at Church in San Onofre State Beach.
Four original Bud Tour athletes - Chris Brown, Jim Hogan, Pat O’Connell, and Vince De La Pena - will once again meet in the water. “The Bud Tour was a great experience for me and I'm excited to see Bud Light Lime get involved with this next generation of aerobatic surfers. I can’t wait to get out in the water with Pat, Chris and Vinnie” said Jim Hogan.
In addition, The Bud Light Lime Surf Series has added new names to the field for the San Clemente Shootout. The contest has received commitments from the following surfers:
Brian Toth, CJ Kahuna, Gavin Beschen, Josh Hoyer, Kamalei Alexander, Kilian Garland, Mitch Coleborn, Nate Tyler, Nick Rozsa, Pete Mussio, Shane Beschen, Torrey Meister
The San Clemente Shootout, the 1st stop of the Bud Light Lime Surf Series will start on Friday, May 27 and conclude on Sunday, May 29. In an effort to provide the best opportunity for athletes and spectators, the contest timeframe will adjust to the conditions. Thus, the event may run for one to eight hours a day. Owned by IMG, the Bud Light Lime Surf Series is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch and consists of two new events along the California coast, bringing together 32 top men and eight women to compete for more than $100,000 in total prize purse. The 2011 kick-off event will be held at Church in San Onofre State Beach on Memorial Day weekend and the finals will be held at Point in Ventura on Labor Day Weekend. IMG is partnering with Surfline.com to broadcast highlight footage of each event’s contests, including full airings of the finals and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
